College Football Career
Xzavier Dickson played for the Alabama team from 2012 to 2014. During this time, he played in 39 games. In his final season before joining the pros, he was very successful. He managed to get at least half a sack in five games in a row. A sack happens when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. He finished that season with 9.0 sacks. He also made 42 tackles and 12.5 tackles for loss. A tackle for loss means stopping an offensive player behind where they started.
Professional Football Journey
New England Patriots
In the 2015 NFL draft, Xzavier Dickson was picked by the New England Patriots. He was the 253rd player chosen overall, in the seventh round of the draft. The draft is where professional teams select new players from college. However, the Patriots released him on September 5, 2015. Being released means a player is no longer part of the team.
Atlanta Falcons
Later that year, on December 30, 2015, Dickson joined the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the main team but usually don't play in games. They help the main team practice and can be called up if needed.
Toronto Argonauts
On April 17, 2018, Dickson signed with the Toronto Argonauts. This team plays in the Canadian Football League (CFL), which is Canada's professional football league. He was released by the Argonauts on June 10, 2018.
Birmingham Iron
Xzavier Dickson then joined the Birmingham Iron on November 19, 2018. This team was part of a new league called the Alliance of American Football. In the very first game of the season, against the Memphis Express, Dickson made an exciting play. He intercepted a pass from the Express quarterback, Brandon Silvers. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player. The Alliance of American Football league stopped operating in April 2019.
