Yale is a small place in Cowlitz County, Washington. It's not a city with its own government. Instead, it's called an unincorporated community. Yale is located northeast of Woodland.
This community sits between two lakes, Yale Lake and Lake Merwin. Both of these are reservoirs, which are like big artificial lakes. They were created on the Lewis River. Near Yale, you can also find the Yale Dam. This dam is made of rock and helps create electricity using water power.
Yale got its name from Yale University. In the 1800s, this university was the only place that taught forestry. Forestry is the science of planting and taking care of forests. The children in Yale go to school in the Woodland School District. This district teaches students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. About 2,200 students attend schools here.
Yale is also quite close to Mount St. Helens. It is the second closest community to the volcano, after Cougar. Mount St. Helens is about 16 miles (26 km) northeast of Yale.
Mount St. Helens Eruption

Even today, Yale offers several great spots to see Mount St. Helens. You can get a good view of the volcano from different locations around the community.
