Yekaterina Gamova (born October 17, 1980) is a famous Russian volleyball player who has now retired. She was a key player for the Russian national team. She helped them win gold medals at the World Championships in 2006 and 2010. She also won silver medals at the Olympic Games in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004).

Because of her amazing height and skill at the net, people called her the "Queen of Volleyball." She is 2.02 meters (about 6 feet 7 inches) tall. This makes her one of the tallest female athletes in the world. She was also one of the highest-paid female volleyball players ever. Her main role on the team was an opposite hitter.

Gamova's Amazing Volleyball Career

Yekaterina Gamova played for many top clubs during her career. She also achieved great success with the Russian national team.

Playing for Clubs

Gamova played for Dynamo Moscow. With them, she won a silver medal in the 2008–09 CEV Champions League. She was also named the "Best Scorer" in that tournament.

For the 2009-2010 season, she joined the Turkish team Fenerbahçe Acıbadem. She helped them win the Turkish League Championship. Her team also finished second in the 2010 CEV Champions League. Again, Gamova was awarded "Best Scorer."

Later, Gamova played for the Russian club Dinamo Kazan. In 2014, she won the CEV Champions League with them. She was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Scorer of that tournament.

She also won the 2014 FIVB Club World Championship with Dinamo Kazan. Her team beat a Brazilian club 3-0 in the final match. Gamova was named the Most Valuable Player and Best Opposite Spiker.

Playing for the National Team

Gamova was a very important part of the Russian national team. She helped them win two gold medals at the World Championships in 2006 and 2010. She was even named the Most Valuable Player of the 2010 World Championship.

After the 2012 Olympics, where Russia lost in the quarterfinals, Gamova thought about leaving the national team. She decided to take a break. She continued to play for her club teams.

Retirement from Volleyball

In May 2016, Yekaterina Gamova announced that she was retiring from volleyball. She made this decision because of an injury. This meant she could not play in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Gamova's Family Life

On August 17, 2012, Yekaterina Gamova married Mikhail Mukasei. He is a Russian cinematographer and producer. His parents are Svetlana Druzhinina and Anatoly Mukasei, who are also famous in the film industry.
