The Allium coryi, also known as the yellowflower onion, is a special type of plant. It is found only in a specific part of Texas called the trans-Pecos region. Sometimes, people also grow it in their gardens because its yellow flowers are very pretty!

Where Does the Yellowflower Onion Grow?

This unique plant grows in the wild in just five counties in Texas. These are Brewster, Presidio, Jeff Davis, Pecos, and Terrell counties. Some of these plants even live inside the famous Big Bend National Park, which is a huge park in Texas.

The yellowflower onion likes to live on rocky slopes and flat areas called plains. It grows at elevations between 800 and 1400 meters. That's like being high up on a mountain or a big hill!

What Does the Yellowflower Onion Look Like?

This plant grows from small, egg-shaped bulbs. These bulbs can be up to 2 centimeters long. The flowers of the yellowflower onion are a bright, cheerful yellow color. Each flower can be up to 10 millimeters wide. Even the parts inside the flower, like the anthers (which hold pollen), and the pollen itself are yellow!
