Local Media and Newspapers

Yorketown has a history with local newspapers. The first newspaper was The Southern Yorke's Peninsula Pioneer. It started on January 21, 1898. Ben L. Wilkinson owned and started this newspaper. His brother Richard also helped him.

After a few months, on March 25, 1898, the newspaper changed its name to The Pioneer. Later, in June 1970, it became part of the Yorke Peninsula Country Times.

For thirty years, there was another newspaper in town. It was called The Southern Yorke's Peninsula Clarion. It ran from February 1, 1902, to May 31, 1902. Then it changed its name to The Clarion and was published until May 21, 1931.
