Yuba is a small community in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is not a city or town with its own local government. Yuba is part of Grand Traverse County. You can find it within Acme Township. The community sits along U.S. Highway 31. Yuba is also located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay.

History

Yuba was first settled by people in 1852. A person named David R. Curtis was the first to settle there. A post office opened in Yuba in 1865. This office helped people send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years. It finally closed down in 1904. A nearby village is called Fife Lake. It was named after William H. Fife. He was the very first postmaster in Yuba.

Geography

Yuba is located right on the shore. It sits on the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. This bay is a part of the huge Lake Michigan. The community is about 4.4 miles (7.1 km) northwest of Williamsburg. It is also about 4.8 miles (7.7 km) south of Elk Rapids. Yuba is roughly 7.4 miles (11.9 km) northeast of Traverse City. U.S. Highway 31 goes directly through Yuba. This highway connects Yuba to Elk Rapids and Traverse City.
