Acme Township is a special kind of local government area called a civil township. It is located in Grand Traverse County in the state of Michigan, United States.
In 2020, about 4,456 people lived here. This was a small increase from 4,375 people in 2010. The part of the township closest to Traverse City is more like a city. However, much of the rest of Acme Township is used for farming. It is especially known for growing cherries.
The township is right on the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. This bay is part of Lake Michigan. A section of the township is also part of the Grand Traverse Reservation.
The name "Acme" comes from an old Greek word. It means "summit" or the highest point.

Geography and Nature
Acme Township covers about 25.3 square miles (65.6 square kilometers). Most of this area, 25.2 square miles (65.2 square kilometers), is land. Only a small part, 0.2 square miles (0.4 square kilometers), is water.
The township has a shoreline along the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. This bay is a large inlet of Lake Michigan.

Acme Township shares borders with several other townships:
- Elk Rapids Township in Antrim County (to the north)
- Whitewater Township (to the east)
- East Bay Township (to the south)

Weather and Climate
Acme Township has a type of weather called a humid continental climate. This means it has big changes in temperature throughout the year. Summers are usually warm to hot and can be humid. Winters are cold, and sometimes very cold.
Roads and Transportation
Two main highways run through Acme Township, helping people travel around:
US 31 goes from south to north through the township. It connects to Traverse City to the south.
M-72 mostly runs from west to east. It goes into Whitewater Township to the east.
Communities in Acme Township
Acme Township is home to several communities, each with its own character:
- Acme is a small, unorganized community. It's located where US 31 and M-72 meet, right on the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay.
- Bates is a ghost town, meaning it's no longer an active community. It was started in 1891 and is located on M-72, about three miles (5 km) east of Acme.
- Fivemile Corner is another unorganized community. It's at a former intersection of US 31/M-72 with Five Mile Road and Holiday Road.
- Holiday Hills is a large suburban area. It's right next to Fivemile Corner and also extends into East Bay Township.
- Yuba is an unorganized community in the northern part of the township. You can find it on US 31 between Acme and Elk Rapids.
History of Acme Township
Acme Township was officially formed on January 7, 1891. Before that, it was part of East Bay Township.
A group of residents asked the leaders of Grand Traverse County to create the new township. This request was made on November 10, 1890. Many people signed the application, including A.C. Hoxie, Milton Beck, and John Pulcipher. Notices about the plan were put up and also printed in the local newspaper, the Grand Traverse Herald. The county leaders approved the request at their meeting in early January 1891.
Recreation and Fun
Acme Township offers fun activities, especially at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa. This resort is owned by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. It has a hotel, places to stay, and three big golf courses where you can play.
