Zachariah Charbonnet (born January 8, 2001) is an American professional football player. He is a running back for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Michigan Wolverines and UCLA Bruins.
While playing for UCLA, Zach was chosen for the All-Pac-12 Conference team twice. In 2022, he was named an All-American. The Seattle Seahawks picked him in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft.

Zach Charbonnet's Early Life
Zach Charbonnet was born on January 8, 2001. He grew up in Camarillo, California. His mother, Seda, came to the United States from France. She is part Cambodian and Chinese. His father, Mark, is African-American. Zach did not start playing football until he was in seventh grade.
He went to Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, California. There, he gained 4,741 rushing yards and scored 62 touchdowns. In his junior year, he had 2,049 yards and 23 touchdowns. His coach, Jim Benkert, said Zach was a top player. He noted Zach's love for the game and his ability to take over a game.
Zach was seen as one of the best running back prospects in the country. He was ranked highly by major sports websites. He was also invited to play in the 2019 Under Armour All-America Game. In June 2018, before his senior year, Zach decided to play college football at the University of Michigan.
College Football Career
Playing for Michigan
Zach had knee surgery soon after starting at Michigan in January 2019. He missed spring practice while getting better. However, he was ready to play by late summer.
Zach started as a running back in Michigan's first game of the 2019 season. He gained 99 yards in total. This included 90 rushing yards and 9 receiving yards.
On September 7, against Army, Zach rushed for over 100 yards for the first time. He also scored three touchdowns in that game. On October 12, against Illinois, he had 108 rushing yards in the first half. He finished that game with 116 yards and one touchdown. On November 2, against Maryland, Zach scored two touchdowns. This set a new record for Michigan, with 11 touchdowns by a freshman.
Zach finished the 2019 season with 726 rushing yards. He also had 11 touchdowns, which was a Michigan freshman record. In the 2020 season, Zach gained 124 yards and scored one touchdown. In January 2021, Zach decided to transfer to another college.
Playing for UCLA
On January 30, 2021, Zach announced he would transfer to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During the 2021 season, he shared running duties with Brittain Brown. When Brown was injured against USC, Zach had a great game. He carried the ball 28 times for 167 yards. This helped him reach over 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Coaches in the Pac-12 voted Zach as a second-team all-conference player. The Associated Press also named him the conference's newcomer of the year. He ended the season with 1,137 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. He was second in the conference for rushing yards per game.
On January 14, 2022, Zach said he would return to UCLA for his senior season. On October 8, he rushed for a career-high 198 yards. He also scored a touchdown in a win against Utah. He tied his career-high with 198 yards rushing against Stanford. In that game, he scored three touchdowns and caught five passes for 61 yards.
Zach finished the 2022 season with 1,359 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. He also caught 37 passes for 321 yards. The Football Writers Association of America named him a first-team All-American. He led the nation with 168 all-purpose yards per game. His 1,680 all-purpose yards were the eighth-highest in UCLA history for a single season. After the season, Zach decided to enter the 2023 NFL draft.

Professional NFL Career
The Seattle Seahawks chose Zach Charbonnet in the 2023 NFL draft. He was the 52nd player picked overall, in the second round. In Week 13, he scored his first NFL touchdown. This happened during a game against the Dallas Cowboys.
As a rookie, Zach played in 16 games and started three of them. He carried the ball 108 times for 462 rushing yards. He also scored one rushing touchdown. Additionally, he caught 33 passes for 209 receiving yards.
