José Ferreira Franco (born November 18, 1934, in Recife) was a talented Brazilian football player. He was often called Zequinha. He played as a midfielder, helping his teams both defend and attack. Zequinha was a part of the famous Brazilian national team that won the 1962 FIFA World Cup. He passed away on July 25, 2009, at the age of 74.

Playing for Brazil
Zequinha was a proud member of the Brazil national football team. He played in 16 matches for his country and scored 2 goals.
World Cup Champion
One of his biggest achievements was being part of the squad that won the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile. Even though he didn't play in any games during the tournament, he was an important substitute player. He received a winner's medal, which is a huge honor for any footballer.

Early Career

From 1958 to 1965, Zequinha played for Palmeiras, a big club in São Paulo. He then had a short time with rivals Fluminense in 1965. But he soon returned to Palmeiras and played there until 1968.
Later Clubs
After his second spell at Palmeiras, Zequinha joined Atlético-PR in Curitiba. He played for them from 1968 to 1970. His final season in Brazil was with Náutico in 1970.
