About Zoë Sugg
Early Life and Education
Zoë Elizabeth Sugg was born in Lacock, England, on 28 March 1990. She has a younger brother, Joe Sugg, who is also a popular YouTuber. Zoë went to The Corsham School nearby. She studied art, photography, and textiles. Zoë decided not to go to university. This was partly because she struggled with anxiety and wasn't sure what career she wanted.
Starting Her Online Career (2009–2013)
Zoë began her online journey in February 2009. She was working as an apprentice at an interior design company at the time. She created a blog called "Zoella." By the end of that year, her blog had a thousand followers. By 2015, it had over 540 million total visits!
Her blog grew into a YouTube channel in 2009. Back then, Zoë was working for a clothing store called New Look. Her main YouTube channel, "Zoella," was first named "zoella280390" after her birth date. On this channel, she mostly shares videos about fashion, beauty products, and her monthly "favourites."
Zoë also has a second channel called "MoreZoella." Here, she posts vlogs, which are video diaries. These videos show her daily life and activities. She is part of the Style Haul network. In 2013, The Telegraph newspaper called her one of "Britain's most influential Tweeters." That same year, she became an ambassador for the National Citizen Service. This group helps young people. The next year, she became the first "Digital Ambassador" for Mind. Mind is a charity that supports mental health.
Zoella Brands and Books (2014–2019)
In September 2014, Zoë launched her own line of beauty products called Zoella Beauty. This launch was a huge event in the beauty world. The products were made by a family-owned company called SLG Allstars Ltd. She released new collections like "Tutti Fruity" in 2015. She also created special Christmas editions.
In September 2016, Zoë launched a collection of homeware items. This included stationery, candles, and diffusers. These products were sold only at Boots. Each year, she released new limited-edition items under the Zoella Lifestyle brand. These were sold in many UK stores. In March 2019, Zoë shared that she would not continue her agreement with SLG. She explained that they had different ideas for the future. The Zoella Beauty and Zoella Lifestyle products stopped being sold in 2020.
Zoë also appeared on TV shows. In June 2014, she was a guest on Loose Women. She also talked about social anxiety on This Morning in July 2014.
In 2014, Zoë signed a deal with Penguin Books to write two books. Her first book, Girl Online, came out on 25 November 2014. This book is for young adults. It's about a 15-year-old anonymous blogger whose blog becomes very popular. Zoë said the book was not about her own life, even though it shared some similar themes. Girl Online sold 78,109 copies in its first week. This was the highest first-week sales for a new author since 1998. Penguin stated that Zoë worked with an expert team to create the story.

Zoë also appeared in YouTube advertisements in the UK in 2014. She was also part of the Band Aid 30 charity song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in 2014. This song raised money to help with the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa. The song reached number one on the UK charts. Zoë also took part in The Great British Bake Off for Comic Relief in 2015.
A second Girl Online book, Girl Online: On Tour, was released in October 2015. A third book, Girl Online: Going Solo, came out in November 2016. In September 2015, Madame Tussauds announced that they had made wax figures of Zoë and her partner, Alfie Deyes. These figures are on display in their London museum.
In late 2016, Zoë and her brother Joe launched a merchandise line called 'Sugg Life'. This line included hoodies, stickers, and phone cases. The name 'Sugg Life' was a fun play on words. The online shop is no longer active. Zoë and Alfie Deyes started A to Z Creatives and A to Z Merchandise in 2018. These companies are based in Brighton.
In November 2017, some people criticized an advent calendar Zoë released. It had 12 doors and cost £50. People thought it was too expensive and the items inside were not worth the price. Zoë's team said that she was proud of the collection. They also said that the pricing was decided by other companies, not by Zoë herself.
Also in November 2017, Zoë apologized for some old social media posts she made between 2009 and 2012. She said the posts were "taken out of context" and that she was sorry if she had offended anyone.
Zoë's non-fiction book, Cordially Invited, was published in October 2018. It gives advice on hosting parties and planning celebrations. In December 2018, Zoë appeared on a podcast called Happy Place. She talked about her career, anxiety, and her thoughts on social media.

She helped choose products from independent Etsy sellers.
Also in August 2020, Zoë teamed up with #IAmWhole, a mental health group, and Lush cosmetics. They launched a "digital detox" campaign. The goal was to show how social media can affect mental health. They wanted to encourage people to have a healthier relationship with their devices. Zoë created a special bath bomb with Lush for this campaign. The money from the bath bomb helps mental health groups. In October, Zoë and Alfie Deyes became ambassadors for A Good Company, which makes household products.
On 29 October 2020, The Magpie Society: One for Sorrow was released. This is a young adult fiction novel that Zoë wrote with Amy McCulloch. The book is about events at a special boarding school. It tells the story from the viewpoints of two girls, Ivy (written by Zoë) and Audrey (written by Amy). Zoë said this book would be the first in a series. The sequel, The Magpie Society: Two for Joy, came out in 2021.
