Zuidhorn is a town in the northeastern Netherlands. It used to be its own municipality. The town is quite close to the big city of Groningen.
A train line connects Zuidhorn with Leeuwarden and Groningen. In 2019, Zuidhorn became part of a larger municipality called Westerkwartier.

Getting Around Zuidhorn
Zuidhorn has two train stations: Zuidhorn and Grijpskerk. Trains run at least once every hour between Groningen and Leeuwarden. On weekdays, trains stop in Zuidhorn twice an hour.
Nature and Parks
In the middle of Zuidhorn, you'll find a big park called "Johan Smit Park." It has lots of trees and trails for walking. You can enjoy many fun activities there.
The "Quick Silver S" is the main sports hall in the park. It hosts many sports and running clubs. Nearby, there are also football fields and a playground. For most of the year, gentle highland cattle walk freely in the park.
Ancient Hills: Wierden
The area around Zuidhorn, called Middag-Humsterland, has many special hills. These are known as wierden or terps. They are artificial hills that people built long ago to live on, keeping their homes safe from floods.
In 1995, these unique wierden were suggested to be a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This means they are considered very important to the world's history and culture.
