Élisabeth de Bourbon (born August 1614 – died 19 May 1664) was a French princess. She was a granddaughter of King Henry IV of France, a famous king of France.

Her Life Story

Élisabeth was born in Paris, the capital city of France. Her father was César de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme. He was an official son of King Henry IV of France and his partner Gabrielle d'Estrées.

Élisabeth's mother was Princess Françoise of Lorraine. She was a very important and wealthy heiress of her time. This meant she inherited a lot of land and money.

Before she got married, Élisabeth was known as Mademoiselle de Vendôme. She was the second of three children. She had two brothers: François de Bourbon, who was involved in a big protest movement called the Fronde, and Louis de Bourbon. Louis's wife, Laura Mancini, was a niece of the powerful Cardinal Mazarin. Louis and Laura were the parents of Louis Joseph de Bourbon, who became a very successful military leader in France.

On 11 July 1643, Élisabeth married Charles Amadeus of Savoy, Duke of Nemours at the Louvre Palace in Paris. Charles Amadeus belonged to a younger branch of the House of Savoy, a royal family from Italy that had moved to France. Élisabeth and Charles Amadeus were actually distant relatives, both tracing their family lines back to Philip II, Duke of Savoy.

They had two daughters who grew up to marry important princes. They also had three sons, but sadly, all three died very young, shortly after they were born.

In 1652, Élisabeth's husband, the Duke of Nemours, was killed in a fight with her own brother, François, Duke of Beaufort. Élisabeth herself passed away in Paris in 1664. She made sure that her two daughters would receive income from the lands of Nemours. However, the official titles of the Duke and Duchess of Nemours went to other members of the family.
