AD 3 (also known as 3 AD) was a year that started on a Monday or Tuesday in the Julian calendar. This calendar system was used by the Roman Empire.
In the Roman Empire, this year was officially known as the Year of the Consulship of Lamia and Servilius. A consul was like a top leader or president in ancient Rome, and two consuls were chosen each year. Sometimes, people also referred to it as year 756 Ab urbe condita, which means "from the founding of the city" (referring to Rome).
The name "AD 3" became common much later, during the Middle Ages. "AD" stands for "Anno Domini," which is Latin for "in the year of the Lord." This way of naming years became the main method in Europe.
Interestingly, AD 3 was also the only prime-numbered year that was a Year of the Pig in the Chinese zodiac!
