This tasty snack is known by many different names across India. For example, in Odia it's called aamba sadhaa. In Assamese, it's Aamta. You might hear it called amawat in Hindi, Maanga Thera in Malayalam, or mamidi tandra in Telugu. In Bengali, it's aamsotto, and in Marathi, it's amba vadi.

Most Aam Papad is sweet. However, you can find different kinds and flavors. It's a great snack because you can keep it for many months. This makes it popular even when fresh mangoes are not in season.

How Aam Papad Is Made

Making Aam Papad involves a special drying process. First, mango pulp is mixed with a small amount of potassium metabisulfite. This ingredient helps to preserve the Aam Papad.

The mixture is then spread out in thin layers on trays. These trays are placed in the sun to dry. Once the first layer is dry, another layer of mango pulp is spread on top. This process is repeated several times. Each new layer is added after the one below it has dried.

This continues until the Aam Papad reaches the right thickness. The thickness can change based on the type of mango pulp used. When it's ready, the big sheet of Aam Papad is cut into smaller pieces. These pieces are then wrapped in oiled paper or put into different packages.

Because it can be stored for a long time, you can enjoy Aam Papad any time of the year!

Aam Papad is made in many parts of India. You can find it in both North and South India. For example, in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, a village called Adavinekkalam is very famous for its aam papad. This village is located in the East Godavari district.

Aam Papad is also sent to other countries from India.
