History of Abercrombie
Abercrombie was founded in 1884. It got its name from Fort Abercrombie, which was a military base nearby. The fort itself was named after Lieutenant Colonel Abercrombie. He was the first leader of the fort.
The city of Abercrombie really began when the Fargo and Southern Railroad was built in 1884. This railroad went through the Red River Valley along the Red River. The new town of Abercrombie was then started just west of the old fort.

While working there, they heard about the Red River Valley. They learned it was very fertile and had great opportunities for farming. A person named Mr. Strandvold wrote articles to encourage young Norsemen to move to the Valley.
