Adair Creek facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Adair Creek is a small stream (a flowing body of water) located in the western part of Reynolds County, in the beautiful Ozarks region of southeast Missouri. It's like a smaller helper stream that flows into a larger one called Logan Creek.

Where Adair Creek Starts and Flows

Adair Creek begins its journey just south of where two roads, Missouri Route 72 and Missouri Route P, meet. This spot is about three miles southeast of a town called Bunker.

Adair Creek's Path

From its starting point, the stream flows generally south and then southeast. It continues until it joins Logan Creek. This meeting point is along Missouri Route B, about 3.5 miles southwest of the town of Reynolds.

Special Features Along the Creek

About a mile before Adair Creek joins Logan Creek, there's a special area. A dam has been built across the stream, and the area behind it has been filled with leftover materials called mine tailings from a nearby place called the Adair Creek Mine (also known as the Sweetwater Mine). These tailings are like the crushed rock and dirt left over after minerals have been taken out of the ground.

How Adair Creek Got Its Name

Adair Creek was named after a local person, a judge, whose last name was Mr. Adair. It's common for natural places like streams and rivers to be named after important people or families from the area's history.
