Logan Creek (Black River tributary) facts for kids
Logan Creek is a small stream located in the western part of Reynolds County, within the beautiful Ozarks region of southeast Missouri. It's like a smaller river that eventually flows into a bigger one called the Black River.
Where Logan Creek Begins and Ends
Every stream has a starting point, called its headwaters, and an ending point, where it joins a larger body of water, known as its confluence. Logan Creek's journey begins at 37°24′30″N 91°08′29″W / 37.40833°N 91.14139°W. This starting spot is just south of Missouri Route 72, a road found northwest of a town called Reynolds.
From its source, Logan Creek flows generally south. It runs alongside Missouri Route B for a while. Then, near a community named Exchange, the stream makes a turn to the east. It continues its path, flowing next to Missouri Route 106, and passes by the northeast side of Ellington.
After Ellington, Logan Creek turns southeast. Its journey ends when it flows into Clearwater Lake, which is where it finally meets and joins the Black River. This meeting point is located at 37°08′33″N 90°46′57″W / 37.14250°N 90.78250°W.
How Logan Creek Got Its Name
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? Logan Creek was named after an important person from the past. It received its name from James Logan, who was one of the very first settlers, or "pioneer citizens," in the area.
