Adarius Taylor (born Adarius Glanton; September 21, 1990) is an American professional football linebacker. He is currently a free agent, meaning he is not signed with a team. Adarius played college football at Iowa Western Community College, Eastern Arizona College, and Florida Atlantic University. He also played high school football at Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Florida. Throughout his career, he has been a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Calgary Stampeders.

Early Life

Adarius Taylor was a talented athlete at Lake Gibson High School. He played football, ran track, and played basketball for the school's Braves team.

College Career

Taylor started his college football journey with the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters. In his second year, he was recognized as a first-team All-Conference and All-Region player. During that season, he made 85 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and caused two fumbles. Later, from 2012 to 2013, he transferred to play for the Florida Atlantic Owls.

Carolina Panthers (First Time)

2014 Season

On May 10, 2014, the Carolina Panthers signed Adarius Taylor to a three-year contract. He worked hard during training camp to earn a spot on the team. On August 30, 2014, he was released but quickly signed to the team's practice squad a few days later.

Taylor made his first professional game appearance on October 19, 2014, against the Green Bay Packers. On December 21, 2014, he got his first chance to start a game. He played well, making six tackles in the Panthers' 17–13 win over the Cleveland Browns. In the last week of the season, he made five tackles and forced his first career fumble. He finished his first NFL season with 12 tackles in ten games, starting two of them.

2015 Season

In 2015, Taylor continued to compete for a spot as a backup linebacker. The Carolina Panthers released him on September 5, 2015, but signed him to their practice squad the very next day.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2015 Season

On November 30, 2015, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Taylor from the Panthers' practice squad. He played in five games, mostly on special teams, but did not record any tackles that season.

2016 Season

In 2016, Taylor continued to compete for a spot as a backup middle linebacker. On November 3, 2016, he had a great game against the Atlanta Falcons, making six tackles. In an interesting moment on January 1, 2017, Taylor even stepped in as the long snapper for a successful extra point after the team's regular long snapper got injured. He ended the 2016 season with 13 tackles in 16 games.

2017 Season

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers kept Taylor for the 2017 season. He competed for a starting position at strongside linebacker. In Week 3, he made a season-high eight tackles against the Minnesota Vikings. On October 5, 2017, Taylor had a big game against the New England Patriots. He made seven tackles, forced a fumble, and got his first career sack by tackling quarterback Tom Brady.

Later in the season, on December 18, 2017, Taylor started a game but unfortunately suffered a serious leg injury (broken tibia and fibula) after colliding with a teammate. This injury ended his season early. He finished the 2017 season with 31 tackles, one pass defended, and one sack in 14 games.

2018 Season

After recovering from his injury, Taylor competed to be the starting strongside linebacker for the 2018 season. He earned the starting role. In Week 9, he had his best game of the season, making nine tackles against the Carolina Panthers.

Cleveland Browns

On March 14, 2019, Taylor signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. He was released by the Browns in February 2020.

Carolina Panthers (Second Time)

On July 27, 2020, Taylor returned to the Carolina Panthers. He played in nine games before being placed on injured reserve in November 2020. He was activated from injured reserve in December and played again.

Calgary Stampeders

On September 26, 2023, Taylor joined the practice squad of the Calgary Stampeders, a team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was released by the team in November 2023.

Personal Life

Adarius Taylor changed his last name to honor his father, Basil George Taylor, who passed away when Adarius was 16 years old. Before this change, his last name was Glanton, which is his mother's last name. Adarius's father was born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, and moved to the United States in 1979.
