The Adelong Creek is a cool river in New South Wales, Australia. It's called a "perennial river" because it flows all year round, not just after rain. This creek is part of a bigger water system called the Murrumbidgee catchment, which then flows into the huge Murray–Darling basin. You can find Adelong Creek in the South West Slopes and Riverina areas of New South Wales.
The Journey of Adelong Creek
The Adelong Creek starts its journey high up in the mountains. It begins below a place called Wondalga, southwest of Batlow. Its water comes from the Australian Alps, which are part of the Great Dividing Range.
Flowing North
As it flows, the creek generally heads north. It passes through the towns of Adelong and Tumblong. Along its way, it gets a little boost from one smaller stream that joins it.
Meeting the Murrumbidgee
The Adelong Creek's journey ends when it meets the Murrumbidgee River. This meeting point, called a confluence, is southwest of Gundagai. From where it starts to where it joins the Murrumbidgee, the creek drops about 239 metres (784 ft) in height. That's like going down a very tall building! The whole creek stretches for about 46 kilometres (29 mi).
Crossing the Creek
You can cross the Adelong Creek in a couple of places. The Snowy Mountains Highway goes over it near Adelong. Also, the Hume Highway crosses the creek at Tumblong.
