A Look Back in Time
Agecroft was once part of Lancashire, which was a historic county in England. Long ago, it was known as a "manor" within Pendlebury. A manor was like a large estate or area of land controlled by a lord.
In the 1800s, there were changes to how local areas were governed. Agecroft became a part of the Municipal Borough of Swinton and Pendlebury. This was a local council area that managed things like roads and services.
Agecroft also had an important role in the past with industry:
- Agecroft Bridge railway station was a train station. It operated on the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Railway from 1838 to 1861.
- Agecroft Colliery was a coal mine. It started digging for coal in 1844.
- Agecroft Power Station was a large building that made electricity by burning coal. It was active from 1925 until 1993.
