Airi Suzuki (鈴木 愛理, Suzuki Airi, born April 12, 1994) is a Japanese singer, actress, model, and radio host. She started her career in 2002 when she joined a group called Hello! Project Kids. Later, she became the main singer for the Japanese idol girl group Cute in 2005.
Airi also sang in another popular girl group called Buono!. From 2015, she also worked as a model for the fashion magazine Ray. After Cute and Buono! ended in 2017, Airi Suzuki began her solo singing career. Her first solo album was called Do Me a Favor.
Career Highlights
Early Years: Hello! Project Kids and Aa! (2002–2005)
Airi Suzuki started taking singing lessons when she was very young. In 2002, she tried out for a special group called Hello! Project Kids. She was chosen to be one of 15 girls in the group.
Her first acting role was as an angel in the 2002 movie Mini Moni ja Movie: Okashi na Daibōken!. She also sang in the movie's ending song as part of a group called 4Kids. In 2003, Airi joined a smaller group called Aa!. They released their first and only song, "First Kiss," in October 2003.
Becoming an Idol: Cute and Buono! (2005–2017)
In 2005, the girls who were not chosen for another group formed a new group called Cute. Airi Suzuki became the main singer for Cute. The group officially started their music career in 2007 with their song "Sakura Chirari."
In 2007, Airi also joined another group called Buono!. This group was created to sing the opening and ending songs for the anime show Shugo Chara!. Their first song was "Honto no Jibun," released in October 2007. Buono! continued to make music even after the anime ended, until 2017.
Airi also started modeling for the fashion magazine Ray in 2015. She also began hosting her own radio show called "Airi's Potion" in 2016. In 2016, Cute announced they would stop performing together in June 2017. Airi decided to continue her singing career as a solo artist.
Solo Career and New Projects (2018–Present)
In April 2018, Airi Suzuki announced her first solo album, Do Me a Favor. It was released in June 2018 and included songs made with other bands. The album's main song was "Distance." Do Me a Favor was very popular, reaching number 6 on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart in Japan.
In December 2019, Airi released her second album, I. This album featured a song called "Break it Down," which was produced by the band Official Hige Dandism. In 2020, she was featured on Masayuki Suzuki's song "Daddy! Daddy! Do!", which was the theme song for the anime Kaguya-sama: Love is War. She also sang the ending theme for the show's third season in 2022.
In July 2022, Airi Suzuki starred in a web drama series called Animals. Her song "Pink Shadow" was used as the ending theme for the show. In September 2023, she became a host for the popular TV show "Azatokute nani ga warui no?". From January to March 2025, Airi played the role of Katherine Howard in the musical Six.
Personal Life
Airi Suzuki's parents are both professional golfers. Her father is Toru Suzuki and her mother is Kyoko Maruya. She also has a younger brother. Airi graduated from Keio University in 2017, where she studied Environmental Studies. As of December 2022, she is dating professional football player Ao Tanaka.
