Alan Rosenberg, born on October 4, 1950, is an American actor. He is known for playing Eli Levinson in TV shows like Civil Wars and L.A. Law. From 2005 to 2009, Mr. Rosenberg was the president of the Screen Actors Guild. This group is a main union for actors in the movie industry.

About Alan Rosenberg's Early Life
Alan Rosenberg was born and grew up in Passaic, New Jersey. His family followed Conservative Judaism. His brother, Mark Rosenberg, was a film producer. Their cousin, Donald Fagen, is a musician and a co-founder of the band Steely Dan.
Mr. Rosenberg went to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating in 1972, he found a new interest in poker. He used some of the money his parents gave him for graduate school to play poker. He only had enough money left to apply to one school, the Yale School of Drama. However, he left Yale during his second year. He has said that his classmate, Meryl Streep, was a great influence and good friend to him there.
Alan Rosenberg's Acting Career
Alan Rosenberg has had many roles in movies and TV shows. In 1979, he appeared in the movie The Wanderers. He also provided the voice for the character Boba Fett in a radio version of The Empire Strikes Back.
He played Ira Woodbine in the TV show Cybill. In 1991, he was in the TV film The Boys. In 1995, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in the drama ER. He also played Shelly Berger in The Temptations miniseries in 1998.
Roles in TV Dramas
In 1999, Mr. Rosenberg started a role as Stuart Brickman, a hospital lawyer, on Chicago Hope. He later became a main character on the show. He also acted in the legal drama The Guardian as Alvin Masterson.
In 2005, he appeared as a lawyer named Adam Novak in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He acted alongside his wife at the time, Marg Helgenberger. In 2006, he had a role as Bruce Steinerman, a divorce lawyer, in the TV series House M.D..
From 2014 to 2021, he appeared as Dr. William Golliher in the Amazon series Bosch. In 2016, he played William Sutter in the drama Suits. From 2016 to 2017, he had a role in the TV series Shameless. He played Professor Youens, a college professor.

Mr. Rosenberg has also performed on stage. He was in Broadway shows like What's Wrong With This Picture and Lost In Yonkers. He also acted in off-Broadway plays such as Isn't It Romantic.
Leading the Screen Actors Guild
On September 23, 2005, Alan Rosenberg was chosen as the 24th president of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). He took over from Melissa Gilbert. He served as president until 2009.
Alan Rosenberg's Family Life
Alan Rosenberg's first marriage was to actress Robin Bartlett from 1976 to 1984.
He met actress Marg Helgenberger in 1984. They became friends and started dating in 1986. They got married in 1989 and have a son named Hugh Howard Rosenberg, who was born on October 21, 1990.
Marg Helgenberger's mother had a long battle with breast cancer. Because of this, Mr. Rosenberg and Ms. Helgenberger became involved in helping fight the disease. They hosted an event called Marg and Alan's Celebrity Weekend in Omaha, Nebraska, starting in 1999. This event helped raise money and awareness.
Mr. Rosenberg and Ms. Helgenberger announced their separation on December 1, 2008. Their divorce was finalized in February 2010. In 2019, he married Marcia Firesten.
