Alburtis became an official town on May 9, 1913. This happened when two smaller villages, Alburtis and Lock Ridge, joined together. Both villages were first settled in the mid-1800s.
The town of Alburtis was named after Edward K. Alburtis. He was an engineer who helped build the East Pennsylvania Branch of the Philadelphia and Reading Railway. When a train station was built in the village in 1859, the railroad company decided to name the town after him.
Near Alburtis, a company called the Lockridge Iron Company bought land in the late 1860s. They built large blast furnaces there. This area grew into a separate village, now known as Lock Ridge Park.
Two important historical places in Alburtis, the Thomas Iron Company and the George F. Schlicher Hotel, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This shows their importance to the nation's history.
