Aleksandr Nikolaevich Kurlovich (born July 28, 1961 – died April 6, 2018) was an amazing weightlifter from the Soviet Union. He was known for his incredible strength. He trained at the Armed Forces sports society in Grodno.
Aleksandr Kurlovich became a member of the International Weightlifting Federation Hall of Fame in 2006. This means he was recognized as one of the best weightlifters ever.

A Champion's Career
Aleksandr Kurlovich was a true champion in weightlifting. He set twelve world records during his career. This shows how strong and skilled he was. He won many important competitions.
He won two gold medals at the Olympic Games. These were in 1988 in Seoul and 1992 in Barcelona. Winning an Olympic gold medal is one of the highest achievements in sports.
Kurlovich also won the World Weightlifting Championships four times. He took home gold medals in 1987, 1989, 1991, and 1994. These wins proved he was the best in the world.
He was famous for his powerful lifts. His personal best in the Snatch was 215.0 kg. His best in the Clean and jerk was 260.0 kg. These are very heavy weights! His total best lift was 472.5 kg. This was a world record at the time.
Awards and Recognition
Aleksandr Kurlovich received many honors for his achievements. These awards recognized his dedication and success in weightlifting.
- He was named a Merited Master of Sport of the USSR in 1987. This is a high honor for athletes in the Soviet Union.
- He received the Order of the Badge of Honour. This is a special award given for great service.
- In 1992, he was named an Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Republic of Belarus.

Later Life and Death
Aleksandr Kurlovich passed away on April 6, 2018. He was 56 years old. He died in his hometown of Grodno, Belarus.
