Alex Carrington, born on June 19, 1987, is a former American professional football player. He played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). The Buffalo Bills picked him in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft. He also played college football for the Arkansas State Red Wolves. Later in his career, he was part of the St. Louis Rams and Houston Texans teams.

Growing Up in Tupelo
Alex Carrington grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi. He went to Tupelo High School. In his senior year, he made 84 tackles, six sacks, and forced three fumbles. He was also named to the all-region team for his great performance.
College Choice
After high school, Alex only received one scholarship offer. This offer came from Arkansas State. He decided to accept it and play college football there.
College Football Career
Playing for the Red Wolves
At Arkansas State, Alex Carrington became a standout player. He was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in 2008. That season, he had 10.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss in 12 games.
Senior Year Highlights
In his final year of college, Alex continued to impress. He recorded 41 tackles, including 14.5 for loss. He also had nine sacks and forced three fumbles. In one game against Western Kentucky, he even returned a fumble 27 yards for a touchdown!
Alex finished his college career with 21.5 sacks. This is the second-best record in his school's history. It's also the fourth-highest in the Sun Belt Conference's history.
Professional Football Career
Joining the Buffalo Bills (First Time)
The Buffalo Bills selected Alex Carrington in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft. He was the 72nd player chosen overall. On July 19, 2010, he signed a four-year contract with the Bills.
In 2011, Alex changed his position to outside linebacker during training camp. In 2012, he showed his skills on special teams. He blocked four kicks, which included three field goals and one extra point. This set a new team record for the Bills.
In 2013, Alex got injured during a game against the New York Jets. This injury ended his season early, as he was placed on injured reserve.
Time with the St. Louis Rams
On March 25, 2014, Alex Carrington signed with the St. Louis Rams. He played one season with them.
Back with the Buffalo Bills (Second Time)
On May 5, 2015, Alex returned to the Buffalo Bills. However, his second time with the team was also cut short by injury. On November 30, 2015, he was placed on injured reserve again.
Final Stop: Houston Texans
Alex Carrington later signed with the Houston Texans. On August 23, 2016, he was released by the Texans. This marked the end of his professional football career.
