About Alex Crawford
Alex Crawford was born in Surrey, England, in 1962. Her mother was English-Chinese, and her father was Scottish. She grew up in different countries like Nigeria, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. She went to school at Cobham Hall School in Kent, England.
Alex started her journalism career at a newspaper called the Wokingham Times. While working there, she also took a special course to learn more about newspaper journalism.
Later, she worked for the BBC and for TV-am. In 1989, she joined Sky News when it first started. Since 2005, she has worked as a foreign correspondent for Sky News. This means she reports news from other countries. Alex has covered big events like conflicts in the Gulf and the Middle East. She also reported on the Arab Spring uprisings in countries like Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, and Libya. More recently, she has covered the Russo-Ukrainian War.

Covering the Libyan Civil War
Alex Crawford reported on the 2011 Libyan Civil War. People highly praised her live reports from the Battle of Tripoli. She was the first TV journalist to enter Libya with the rebel forces. She traveled with them into the heart of Tripoli. She filmed live as the rebels moved forward, reaching Green Square with little fighting. She wore a helmet and a bulletproof vest as a safety measure. She also covered the raid on Bab al-Azizia live. She was one of the first journalists to go inside after the raid ended.
Reporting from Northern Mali
Alex Crawford also covered the Northern Mali conflict starting in January 2013. Her Sky News team was the first to enter Timbuktu after French forces helped free the city.
Reporting on the Syrian Civil War
In April 2019, Alex Crawford and her team were reporting in Syria. They were in a village called Hbit during a military operation. Syrian government forces fired at them. Alex said they were spotted by a military drone. Then, they were repeatedly shot at with large shells, possibly from a tank. A local activist who was guiding them was hurt by shrapnel. Shrapnel is small pieces of metal from an explosion. He was taken for medical treatment.

Alex Crawford has been covering the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine since March 2022. On March 9, she interviewed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in English. They talked about the current situation of the conflict.
