It also grows in Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and northern China. In China, it is found in Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, and Xinjiang.
What Does It Look Like?
Allium altaicum grows from bulbs. These bulbs are shaped like a narrow egg and can be up to 4 centimeters (about 1.6 inches) wide.
The plant has a tall, round stem called a scape. This stem can grow up to 100 centimeters (about 39 inches) tall.
Its leaves are round and can be as long as 50 centimeters (about 20 inches).
The flowers of Allium altaicum are a pale yellow color. Each flower can be up to 20 millimeters (about 0.8 inches) wide. Inside the flower, the part that holds the seeds (called the ovary) is egg-shaped. The stamens, which are the parts that make pollen, are longer than the flower's petals (called tepals).
