What is Alstrom Point?
Alstrom Point is a landmark that reaches 4,685 feet (1,428 meters) high. It's located in Kane County, Utah. Think of it as a "cape" or a "headland." This means it's a piece of land that extends out into a body of water. Here, it stretches into Lake Powell, sitting between Padre Bay and Warm Creek Bay.
Rocks and History
Alstrom Point is mostly made of a type of rock called Entrada Sandstone. You can also find this rock in nearby places like Romana Mesa and Gunsight Butte. On top of the Entrada Sandstone, there's another rock layer called Romana Sandstone. The very top is covered by a harder rock layer from the Morrison Formation.
The Entrada Sandstone is very old. Scientists believe it formed about 160 million years ago. This was during the Jurassic period, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth! Back then, this area was a huge desert. It was like a giant "sand sea" with many sand dunes. Before that, the sand was deposited as muddy sand on a flat area near the ocean, like a "tidal flat."
