Amed Rosario's Baseball Journey
Starting with the Mets
Amed Rosario joined the New York Mets in July 2012. He was signed as an international free agent. This means he was a player from another country who was not yet part of a professional team. He received a large signing bonus from the Mets.
Rosario began playing professionally in 2013. He moved up through different minor league teams. By 2016, he was playing for the Double-A Binghamton Mets. He was chosen for the 2016 MLB All Star Futures Game, which features top young players. That year, he had a strong batting average of .324.
After the 2016 season, the Mets added Rosario to their main roster. This protected him from being picked by other teams. In 2017, he was named the top prospect in baseball by a sports writer. He also played in the Triple-A All-Star Game and the All-Star Futures Game again. He was even named the Rookie of the Year for the Pacific Coast League.
Rosario made his first MLB appearance on August 1, 2017. He got his first major league hit in that game. On August 11, 2017, he hit his first career home run. In 2018, he hit two home runs in one game for the first time.
In 2019, Rosario had a good season. He batted .287, hit 15 home runs, and had 72 RBIs. He also stole 19 bases. He led the National League in singles that year.
On August 28, 2020, Rosario hit a special home run. It was a "walk-off" home run against the New York Yankees. This means his hit won the game in the final inning. It was unusual because the Mets were the "home team" in a game played at Yankee Stadium.
Playing for the Cleveland Guardians
On January 7, 2021, Rosario was traded to the Cleveland Indians. The team later changed its name to the Cleveland Guardians. At first, the team tried to have Rosario play in the outfield. However, he soon became their regular starting shortstop.
On August 31, 2021, Rosario had an amazing game. He got five hits and had a career-high five RBIs. This included two home runs, one of which was an inside-the-park home run. He finished the 2021 season with a .282 batting average, 11 home runs, and 57 RBIs.
In 2022, Rosario led all of Major League Baseball with nine triples. He also batted .283 and stole 18 bases.
