American Lacrosse Conference facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) was a special group of colleges and universities in the eastern United States. These schools played NCAA Division I women's lacrosse games against each other every year. Lacrosse was the only sport this conference focused on. All the schools were part of other conferences for their other sports. The team that won the ALC championship got a special spot in the NCAA Division I women's lacrosse tournament.

The ALC started in 2001 with seven schools, and games began in 2002. Over time, nine different schools were members. However, no more than seven schools played in the conference at any one time. The conference stopped existing after the 2014 season. This happened mainly because the Big Ten Conference, which included four of the ALC's last seven members, decided to start its own women's lacrosse league in 2015.
