Amisquioumisca Lake is a large freshwater lake in Quebec, Canada. It's part of the Nipukatasi River system, which flows into the bigger Broadback River. You can find it in the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James (municipality) area, in the Nord-du-Québec region.
The main activity around the lake is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. After that, tourism, like fishing or boating, is also important.
Getting to Amisquioumisca Lake is easy! You can use the James Bay Highway, which runs north-south and passes right by the west side of the lake. This highway starts from Matagami.
The lake's surface usually freezes over from early November until mid-May. However, it's generally safe to walk or travel on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.

Discover Amisquioumisca Lake's Geography
Amisquioumisca Lake is one of several lakes in this part of Quebec. These lakes, like Ouescapis Lake, Lake Poncheville, Quénonisca Lake, Salamandre Lake (Broadback River), Opataouaga Lake, and Rocher Lake (Nipukatasi River), are often long and run somewhat parallel to each other. To the northwest, you'll find the large Evans Lake.
How Water Flows into Amisquioumisca Lake
The lake gets its water from several small streams that flow from the nearby forests. The most important water source is the Nipukatasi River, which flows into the lake from the north. The river's current then travels through the southwest part of the lake.
Size and Features of the Lake
Amisquioumisca Lake is about 14.0 kilometres (8.7 mi) long and 4.7 kilometres (2.9 mi) wide. It sits at an elevation of 302 metres (991 ft) above sea level and covers an area of 31.61 square kilometres (12.20 sq mi). Because it's a long lake, it has 13 islands! The area around the lake also has several mountain peaks.
Where the Lake's Water Goes
The water from Amisquioumisca Lake flows out from its southwestern side. This is where the lower part of the Nipukatasi River begins. From here, the river flows for about 77.5 kilometres (48.2 mi), passing through Rocher Lake (Nipukatasi River), until it joins the Broadback River.
Once it reaches the Broadback River, the water travels westward for about 15.3 kilometres (9.5 mi) to Corbeau Bay, which is part of Evans Lake. After passing through Evans Lake, the water continues its journey down the Broadback River all the way to Rupert Bay.
The Name of Amisquioumisca Lake
In the past, people sometimes called this lake "Amiskwumiska lake."
The official name, lac Amisquioumisca, was formally recognized on December 5, 1968. This happened when the Commission de toponymie du Québec (Quebec's place name commission) was created.
