Early Life
Amy Yasbeck was born in Blue Ash, Ohio, in the United States. Her mother, Dorothy, was a homemaker, and her father, John, owned a grocery store and was a butcher. Her father's family came from Lebanon, and her mother's family was from Ireland.
When she was a child, Amy Yasbeck's picture was on the box for the Betty Crocker Easy-Bake Oven. Years later, in 2000, she received a new Easy-Bake Oven on a TV show called I've Got a Secret. She was a regular guest on that show.
Yasbeck went to two different Catholic schools for her early education: Summit Country Day School and Ursuline Academy. She then started studying theater at the University of Detroit. After some personal challenges, Yasbeck moved to New York City in 1983 to pursue her acting dreams.
Career
Amy Yasbeck started her acting career in 1985 with a TV pilot called Rockhopper. She appeared as a guest star in many popular TV shows. These include Dallas, Magnum, P.I., China Beach, and Murphy Brown. She also played Olivia Reed for several months on the daytime drama Days of Our Lives from 1986 to 1987.
In 1988, Yasbeck got a main role as the mermaid Madison in the Disney TV movie Splash, Too. This was a follow-up to the popular movie Splash. She also had main roles in TV shows like Wings and Alright Already.
Amy Yasbeck has also starred in several movies. Some of these are House II: The Second Story, Pretty Woman, Problem Child, Problem Child 2, and The Mask. Sadly, John Ritter passed away in 2003. He was rehearsing for his TV show 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter when he became ill. After his passing, Amy Yasbeck supported the continuation of the show. The story was changed so that Katey Sagal's character became a widow.
On June 16, 2008, Yasbeck appeared on the TV show Larry King Live. She talked about heart health and raising awareness.
On an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1990, she shared an interesting family fact. She said that her "great-great-great uncle" Charles Webb Murphy used to own the Chicago Cubs baseball team. He owned the team when they won the World Series in 1907 and 1908.
