Ancenis (pronounced ahn-see-NEE) was once a town in western France. It was located in the Loire-Atlantique area. On January 1, 2019, Ancenis joined with another town, Saint-Géréon. They formed a new, bigger town called Ancenis-Saint-Géréon.
Ancenis was very important in history. It was a key spot on the road to Nantes. Nantes is the historic capital of Brittany. Because of its location, Ancenis was often called "the key of Brittany." It was also known as "the door of Brittany."
