Club Career
Starting in Denmark
Born in Odense, Denmark, Lindegaard began his football journey with his local team, Odense Boldklub (OB). He made his first appearance in the top Danish league on 19 November 2006.
For much of his time at OB, he was the backup goalkeeper. To get more playing time, he was sent on loan to other clubs. One of these was Kolding FC, where he played ten games without losing. When OB's main goalkeeper left the team in 2009, Lindegaard was chosen to take his place.
Success in Norway
In 2009, Lindegaard joined the Norwegian club Aalesund, first on loan and then permanently. This move was a big success. In his first year, he helped the team win the Norwegian Football Cup. By 2010, he was so good that he was named Goalkeeper of the Year in both Norway and Denmark.
Manchester United

Lindegaard's amazing performances caught the eye of the famous English club Manchester United. In November 2010, he signed a contract to join them. He officially became a Manchester United player on 1 January 2011.
First Seasons at United
Lindegaard made his debut for Manchester United on 29 January 2011, in an FA Cup match against Southampton. A month later, he played his first game at the team's home stadium, Old Trafford.
In the 2011–12 season, he began to play more often. He played in the UEFA Champions League and made his first Premier League appearance on 1 October 2011. He had a fantastic start, keeping five "clean sheets" in a row. A clean sheet is when a goalkeeper doesn't let the other team score any goals.
Winning the Premier League
On 3 August 2012, Lindegaard signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United. During the 2012–13 season, he shared goalkeeping duties with David de Gea.
That season, Manchester United won the Premier League title. Lindegaard played in 10 league games, which meant he earned a winner's medal. He played in the final game of the season, which was also the last game for the legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
In his final two years at the club, he played less often as De Gea became the main goalkeeper.
Later Career in England
After leaving Manchester United in 2015, Lindegaard joined West Bromwich Albion. He then moved to Preston North End, first on loan and then on a permanent deal. He became a fan favorite there for his strong performances.
In 2017, he signed with Burnley, another Premier League club. He mostly served as a backup goalkeeper during his time there.
Helsingborg and Retirement
In July 2019, Lindegaard moved to Sweden to play for Helsingborgs IF. A special moment came on 19 July 2020, when he scored the first and only goal of his career in a league match. It is very rare for a goalkeeper to score a goal.
Lindegaard announced his retirement from professional football in November 2022.
International Career
Lindegaard represented his country, Denmark, at many levels. He played for the under-19 and under-20 youth teams before getting called up to the main national team.
He made his first appearance for the senior Danish team on 7 September 2010, in a 1–0 win against Iceland. He went on to play five times for his country. He was part of the squad for the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament.
Life Outside of Football
Lindegaard was married to Swedish model Misse Beqiri from 2014 to 2016. They have a son together. After retiring from football, Lindegaard started a new career in business.
He is also known for speaking out on important issues. He has encouraged more tolerance and acceptance in the world of football. He wrote that he believes players should support their teammates no matter what, and that the sport should be a welcoming place for everyone.
