Andrew Howe is an amazing athlete from Italy. He was born on May 12, 1985. He is famous for his skills in the long jump and sprinting.

Andrew won two gold medals at the 2004 World Junior Championships. He quickly became successful as an adult. He won a bronze medal in the long jump at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Later that year, he became the European Champion.

In 2007, he won the European Indoor Championship. He also earned a silver medal at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. Andrew faced some injuries in 2008 and 2009. These injuries kept him from competing much. He made a strong comeback in 2010. He became the Italian champion and represented his country again.

Andrew Howe's Early Life and Career

Andrew Howe was born in Los Angeles, United States. His mother, René Felton, was also a great athlete. She was a hurdler and held a national record. In 1992, Andrew moved to Rieti, Italy with his mother. She became his coach and guided him from a young age.

Andrew's big breakthrough came in 2004. He won two gold medals at the World Junior Championships. This event took place in Grosseto, Italy. He won both the long jump and the 200 meters race.

Becoming a Champion

Andrew continued his success as an adult. In 2006, he won a bronze medal at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships. This competition was held in Moscow. Later that year, he won a gold medal at the 2006 European Championships in Athletics. This made him the European Champion in long jump.

In 2007, Andrew won another gold medal. This was at the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships. He made a fantastic jump of 8.30 meters. At the 2007 World Championships in Athletics, he won a silver medal. His final jump was 8.47 meters. This jump set a new Italian national record for him. He was only beaten by Irving Saladino, who jumped 8.57 meters.

Andrew finished 2007 by winning the 2007 IAAF World Athletics Final. He was the first Italian to win at this event. He also received the first European Athletics Rising Star Award. This award recognized his amazing achievements that year.

Facing Challenges and Comebacks

After 2007, Andrew faced some tough times. He had a shoulder injury in 2008. Then, he had problems with his hamstring. These injuries affected his performance. He did not make it past the qualifiers at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The next year, he had more physical issues. He needed surgery on his Achilles tendon. This meant he could not compete for the rest of the year.

Andrew returned to competition in July 2010. He won the long jump at the Italian Athletics Championships. He tried to win the European title again at the 2010 European Athletics Championships. He finished fifth with a jump of 8.12 meters. Later that season, he ran in the 200 meters race. He won the race with a time of 20.30 seconds. This was very close to his personal best time.

He trained in Qatar and at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2011, he ran a personal best in the 400 meters race. He also won the 200 meters at the Golden Gala in Rome. Another famous Italian sprinter, Lamont Marcell Jacobs, has said that Andrew Howe was his idol when he was growing up.
