Angel Lake is a beautiful lake located in the East Humboldt Range in Nevada. It's a special type of lake called a tarn. This means it was formed by a glacier a very long time ago.
The lake sits high up in the mountains, about 8,378 feet (2,553 meters) above sea level. It covers an area of about 13 acres (5.2 hectares) and can be as deep as 29 feet (9 meters). You can reach Angel Lake by driving on a scenic road called Nevada State Route 231. This road is 12 miles (19 km) long and starts from Interstate 80 in the town of Wells.
What Makes Angel Lake Special?
Angel Lake is nestled at the bottom of a steep, bowl-shaped area called a cirque. This means it's surrounded by tall, rocky cliffs.
- To the west, you can see Greys Peak, which stands at 10,674 feet (3,253 meters) tall.
- To the south, there are sharp, pointy rock formations known as Chimney Rock. These are called pinnacles.
- Looking east, you can see Clover Valley and the town of Wells far below.

How Angel Lake Got Its Name
Angel Lake was named after an early rancher in the area. His name was Warren M. Angel, and he lived in the nearby Clover Valley.
