Anna Cummins, born Anna Mickelson on March 21, 1980, is a famous American rower. She is known for winning a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She also earned a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Both of these impressive wins were in the women's eight rowing event.

Early Life and College Rowing

Anna grew up in Bellevue, Washington, a city in the United States. She attended Newport High School. During her high school years, Anna was very active in sports. She ran cross country and track. She also played basketball on the varsity team.

After high school, Anna went to the University of Washington. This is where she first discovered her talent for rowing. She quickly became a key member of the university's rowing team. In 1999, her first year of rowing, she won an NCAA championship. This was with the Varsity Four, which is a boat with four rowers.

Anna continued to excel in college rowing. She was part of Washington's top boat, the Varsity Eight. This team finished second at the NCAA Rowing Championship in 2000. They then went on to win the NCAA Championship in both 2001 and 2002. The University of Washington team also won the overall team championship in 2001. Anna graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in communications.

Their winning time was 6 minutes and 5.34 seconds. The team from the Netherlands won the silver medal, and the Romanian team took the bronze. Other teams in the final included Canada, Great Britain, and Australia.

Anna Mickelson married Dr. Bob Cummins on December 22, 2007. After her marriage, she became known as Anna Cummins.
