Antrel Rocelious Rolle (born December 16, 1982) is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback and safety in the National Football League (NFL). Rolle played college football for the Miami Hurricanes. He was recognized as an unanimous All-American during his college career.
The Arizona Cardinals picked Rolle eighth overall in the 2005 NFL draft. He also played for the New York Giants and Chicago Bears. Rolle won Super Bowl XLVI with the New York Giants in 2011.

Antrel Rolle's Early Life
Antrel Rolle was born in Homestead, Florida. He went to South Dade High School in Homestead. There, he played for the South Dade Buccaneers high school football team.
As a junior, he had three interceptions and 85 tackles. He also returned three kickoffs and three punts for touchdowns. In his senior year, he made three interceptions and 86 tackles. He also played offense, catching four passes for 160 yards and a touchdown. Rolle was also good at track & field, competing in hurdling events.
College Football Career
Rolle attended the University of Miami and played for the Miami Hurricanes football team from 2001 to 2004. As a freshman in 2001, he played in eight games. He recorded eight tackles and one interception.
In 2002, Rolle started eleven games as a sophomore. He earned first-team All-Big East honors. He had a career-high 66 tackles that season. As a junior in 2003, Rolle made 51 tackles and two interceptions.
In his final season, 2004, Rolle was named a unanimous All-American. He recorded 58 tackles and one interception. He was known for shutting down talented opposing receivers.
Professional Football Career
Antrel Rolle was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2005. He later played for the New York Giants and Chicago Bears.
Playing for the Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals chose Rolle as the eighth overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft. He was the second cornerback picked that year.
Starting His NFL Journey (2005)
Rolle signed a six-year contract with the Cardinals. He started as a cornerback in his first season. In September 2005, he had 11 tackles in a game. He then got injured and missed nine games. Rolle returned quickly and made his first career interception in December 2005. He finished his rookie season with 28 tackles and one interception.
Second Season and New Role (2006-2007)
In 2006, Rolle continued as a starting cornerback. He had 84 tackles and ten passes defended. In 2007, he became the team's third cornerback and played as a nickelback. A nickelback is a player who covers extra receivers.
On November 18, 2007, Rolle had an amazing game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He made three interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns! This performance earned him the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award. He finished 2007 with five interceptions and three touchdowns.
Moving to Safety (2008-2009)
In 2008, the Cardinals moved Rolle to free safety. This position covers the deep middle of the field. He became the starting free safety. In his first season as a safety, he had 89 tackles and one interception returned for a touchdown.
The Cardinals made it to the playoffs that year. Rolle helped them reach Super Bowl XLIII. They played against the Pittsburgh Steelers but lost a close game. In 2009, Rolle was chosen for his first Pro Bowl game. He ended the 2009 season with 72 tackles and four interceptions.
Playing for the New York Giants
In March 2010, the New York Giants signed Antrel Rolle to a five-year contract. He became the starting free safety for the Giants.
First Seasons and Super Bowl Win (2010-2011)
In 2010, Rolle was selected for his second Pro Bowl. He finished the season with 87 tackles. In 2011, he continued as the starting free safety. He had 96 tackles and two interceptions.
The Giants had a great season and made it to the playoffs. They won the NFC Championship Game and reached the Super Bowl. On February 5, 2012, Rolle and the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 21–17 to win Super Bowl XLVI. This was a huge win for the team!
Later Seasons with the Giants (2012-2014)
In 2012, Rolle continued to play a key role for the Giants. He had 96 tackles and two interceptions. He also played as a nickelback, covering receivers closer to the line of scrimmage.
In 2013, Rolle moved to starting strong safety. He had an excellent season, setting career-highs in several areas. He recorded 98 tackles, 12 passes defended, and six interceptions. He was named an alternate for the 2014 Pro Bowl and later played in the game. In 2014, he finished his time with the Giants with 87 tackles and three interceptions.
Time with the Chicago Bears
On March 11, 2015, the Chicago Bears signed Rolle. He became the starting strong safety for the Bears. In Week 3, he had ten tackles in a game.
However, he suffered an ankle injury in Week 4, which ended his streak of playing in many games in a row. He later had another injury to his knee. On December 14, 2015, the Bears placed him on injured reserve, meaning he could not play for the rest of the season. He finished his only season with the Bears with 35 tackles.
On May 1, 2016, the Chicago Bears released Rolle.
Retirement from Football
On November 7, 2016, Antrel Rolle announced his retirement from professional football. He shared the news on the TV show Good Morning Football.

Antrel Rolle's Personal Life
Antrel's father and brother work as police officers. His mother and sister are educators.
Rolle is a distant cousin of other football players: former linebacker Brian Rolle, former cornerback Samari Rolle, and former strong safety Myron Rolle.
