Aqib Talib (born February 13, 1986) is a former professional football player. He played as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). Talib played college football at the University of Kansas. There, he earned top honors as an All-American.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft. Talib also played for the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Rams. He won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos. After retiring in 2020, he became a football analyst for NFL on Fox.

Early Life and High School Football
Aqib Talib was born in Cleveland, Ohio. His parents are Theodore Henry and Okolo Talib. He grew up in a Muslim household. Aqib is the youngest of four children. He has two older sisters, Saran and Kai, and an older brother, Yaqub. His name "Aqib" means "the last one" in Arabic. His last name, "Talib," means "student."
When Talib was in eighth grade, his mother moved to Richardson, Texas. He attended Berkner High School in Richardson. He played football, basketball, and ran track. As a senior in football, he was named Berkner High School's Defensive Back of the Year. He also earned first-team all-district and all-city honors.
Talib was a promising college football player. He was recruited by several universities. He chose to play for the University of Kansas.
College Football Career
Talib played for the Kansas Jayhawks football team from 2004 to 2007.
In 2007, as a junior, Talib became one of the best defensive college players. He was recognized as a top All-American. He also played as a wide receiver, catching four touchdown passes. In a game against Kansas State, he intercepted a pass to secure a victory. He also returned an interception 102 yards for a touchdown. After the 2007 season, he was a unanimous All-American.
In the 2008 Orange Bowl, Talib intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. He was named the game's Most Valuable Player. On January 6, 2008, he decided to enter the 2008 NFL draft early. In 2017, Talib was added to the Kansas Ring of Honor.
Professional NFL Journey
Before the 2008 NFL Draft, Talib was a top cornerback prospect. He attended the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Years
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Talib in the first round (20th overall) of the 2008 NFL draft. He was the third cornerback chosen. He signed a four-year contract with the Buccaneers.
In his first NFL game in 2008, he made one tackle. In Week 2, he got his first career interception. He finished his rookie year with 23 tackles and four interceptions. In 2009, Talib became a starting cornerback. He had a career-high three interceptions in one game against the Washington Redskins. He ended the 2009 season with 64 tackles and five interceptions.
In 2010, Talib continued as a starting cornerback. He scored his first career touchdown by returning an interception 45 yards. He finished the season with 40 tackles and six interceptions. The Buccaneers had a good season, winning 10 games. In 2011, Talib scored two more touchdowns from interceptions. He finished the season with 34 tackles and two interceptions.
New England Patriots Experience
On November 1, 2012, the Buccaneers traded Talib to the New England Patriots. He joined the Patriots after a four-game absence. Head coach Bill Belichick named him a starting cornerback. In his Patriots debut, he made seven tackles and returned an interception for a 59-yard touchdown. He finished the 2012 season with 40 tackles and two interceptions.
The Patriots won their division and made the playoffs. Talib played in his first career playoff game. In 2013, the Patriots signed Talib to a new contract. He continued as a starting cornerback. He recorded two interceptions in a game against the New York Jets. He finished 2013 with 41 tackles and four interceptions. His strong performance earned him a spot in the 2013 Pro Bowl. He was also named to the Second-team 2013 All-Pro Team.
Denver Broncos Success
On March 11, 2014, the Denver Broncos signed Talib to a six-year contract. He joined his former college teammate Chris Harris Jr.. Talib became a key part of the Broncos' defense, known as the "No Fly Zone."
In 2014, Talib was named a starting cornerback. He returned an interception for a 22-yard touchdown against the New York Jets. He also had a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was voted to his second career Pro Bowl. He finished the season with 64 tackles, 16 pass deflections, and four interceptions.
In 2015, Talib continued as a starting cornerback. He returned an interception for a 51-yard touchdown in the season opener. The Broncos had a great season, finishing with a 12–4 record. They defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs. In the AFC Championship, Talib helped the Broncos defeat the New England Patriots.
On February 7, 2016, Talib played in his first Super Bowl. He recorded five tackles and helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers. He was ranked among the top NFL players by his peers.
In 2016, Talib had 12 pass deflections and three interceptions. One interception was returned 46 yards for a touchdown. This was his fifth interception return touchdown for the Broncos, a team record. He was named to the 2016 Pro Bowl and the First-team 2016 All-Pro Team. In 2017, Talib recorded a career-long 103-yard interception return for a touchdown. He was named to his fifth straight Pro Bowl. He finished the 2017 season with 31 tackles and one interception.
Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins
On March 8, 2018, the Broncos traded Talib to the Los Angeles Rams. He became a starting cornerback alongside Marcus Peters. In Week 3, Talib suffered an ankle injury and was placed on injured reserve. He returned in November 2018. He recorded his first interception with the Rams in Week 15. Talib helped the Rams reach Super Bowl LIII, where they lost to the New England Patriots. He finished the season with 23 tackles and one interception.
In 2019, Talib started the season with the Rams. He was placed on injured reserve in October due to a rib injury. On October 29, 2019, Talib was traded to the Miami Dolphins. He did not play for the Dolphins due to his injury.
Retirement and Beyond
On September 9, 2020, Aqib Talib announced his retirement from football. He had decided he no longer wanted to play. After retiring, Talib worked as a commentator for Fox Sports. He later stepped away from broadcasting.

Personal Life
On March 26, 2016, Talib married his girlfriend, Gypsy Benitez. The ceremony took place near Dallas, Texas. Teammates from the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots attended. The couple has two children together. Their son is named Jabril, and their daughter is named Kiara.
Talib has said that Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders were his favorite players when he was a child.
