The Town of Arcadia is on the southern edge of Wayne County. It is located east of the city of Rochester, New York. The main postal code for Arcadia is 14513, which is for the nearby village of Newark.

History of Arcadia
Early Settlement and Formation
People first settled in the area that is now Arcadia around 1791. The Town of Arcadia was officially created in 1825. It was formed from a part of the Town of Lyons.
Famous Events and Conservation
Hydesville, New York was a small community within Arcadia. It is famous as the home of the Fox Sisters. They were known for starting the Spiritualism movement in the mid-1800s.
In 1957, the Bergen Swamp Preservation Society helped protect Zurich Bog. This important natural area was set aside for conservation. The town is also part of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.

The famous Erie Canal runs through the town. It also passes through the Village of Newark. The eastern end of "the Wide Waters," which is a broad part of the canal, is located in Arcadia.
The land in Arcadia has many drumlins. These are small, oval-shaped hills formed by glaciers long ago. The Zurich Bog, a large swamp, is also a notable landform.
Borders and Roads
The southern border of Arcadia touches Ontario County. Major roads like New York State Route 31 (running east-west) and New York State Route 88 meet in Newark, just south of the Erie Canal.

Communities and Locations in Arcadia
Arcadia is home to several smaller communities and interesting spots:
- Arcadia — This former community is now part of the Village of Newark.
- Austin — A small community that borders the town of Sodus. It is found along Maple Ridge Road and Austin Road.
- Brantling Hill — This is a large drumlin, a hill shaped by glaciers. It is located in the northeast part of the town and has a ski slope.
- Fairville — A community near the center of the town, located along State Route 88.
- Fairville Station — This community is northeast of Newark. It is along Fairville Station Road, Heidenreich Road, Coleman Hill Road, and Arcadia Zurich Norris Road.
- Hydesville — A small community north of Newark village. It is on Hydesville Road and Parker Road. This hamlet is known as the birthplace of Modern Spiritualism. This is because of events involving the Fox sisters who lived there.
- Marbletown — A community near the southern town line. It is on Marbletown Road (County Road 336), Miller Road, and Silver Hill Road.
- Minsteed — A community in the northwest part of the town. It is located on Martin Road, Skinner Road, and Minsteed Road.
- Mud Mills — A community northeast of Newark. It is on Welcher Road (County Road 234), Mud Mills Road, and Sleight Road.
- Newark — This is the main village in the town. It is located on the Erie Canal and where NY-31 and NY-88 intersect.
- Stebbins Corner — A place west of Hydesville on Tellier Road (County Road 225).
- Whitings Corners — A community just north of Newark, southwest of Mud Mills, and east of Hydesville.
- Zurich — A location in the northeast corner of the town. It is on Zurich Road (County Road 237), Bramer Road, Lembke Road, Deneef Road, and Layton Street Road. Part of it is also in the town of Lyons.
- Zurich Bog — A large swamp west of Zurich. It is the lowest point in the town and a registered national landmark. It is also called "Mud Pond," which is an open body of water within the bog. Early settlers called it "Big Swamp," and natives called it "Bottomless Pit." The swamp is about three miles long and one mile wide.
