Argyle is a small town in Missouri, a state in the United States. It's located in both Osage and Maries counties. In 2020, about 144 people lived there. The part of Argyle in Osage County is near Jefferson City, which is the capital of Missouri.
History
Argyle got its name from a place called Argyll in Scotland. It used to be known as "Campbell's Switch." A post office opened in Argyle in 1904. This was the same year the town officially became a village.
Geography
Argyle is in the southern part of Osage County. It's very close to the line that separates Osage and Maries counties. A small part of the town even goes into Maries County.
The town is on the north side of Loose Creek. It's about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of the Maries River. Nearby towns include Koeltztown to the north and Vienna to the southeast. Jefferson City, the state capital, is about 29 miles (47 km) to the northwest.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Argyle covers about 0.40 square miles (1.04 square kilometers) of land. The Loose Creek flows through the area. Water from Argyle eventually flows into the Maries River, then the Osage River, and finally into the Missouri River.
