Dive into the Game
In Ariel the Little Mermaid, you get to play as either Ariel or King Triton. Your main goal is to break Ursula's evil spell. This spell has turned many mermaids in the Atlantica kingdom into polyps.
Your Mission in Atlantica
Depending on who you choose to play, you will also need to rescue the other character. If you play as Ariel, you save Triton from Ursula. If you play as Triton, you save Ariel. The game has four different levels, or stages. In each stage, you must collect the polyps to free the mermaids. After collecting them, you will face a boss character.
Exploring the Stages
The first level takes you through a colorful reef maze. Here, you will encounter enemies like sharks, clams, and eels. The second stage is set inside and around a sunken ship. Watch out for sharks, ghosts, and skeleton pirates!
Next, you explore the ancient remains of Atlantis. In this stage, you will find statues that come to life and shoot arrows and frisbees. The final level is a series of hot volcanic caves. Ariel defeats enemies and breaks spells by singing. Triton uses powerful lightning balls to do the same.
Game Difficulty and Help
Ariel the Little Mermaid offers three difficulty settings. These are Easy, Normal, and Challenging. The harder the setting, the less money you start with. It also takes more effort to reach the boss of each stage.
On the Easy setting, you automatically go to the boss once all friends are rescued. On Normal, you can use a map to find the boss area yourself. The Challenging setting does not give you a map at all.
Helpful Friends and Treasures
You can get help from three friendly characters during your adventure. Sebastian can scare away enemies for you. Flounder helps by moving rocks that block your path. There is also a unique character called The Digger Fish. This fish helps you find buried treasure.
Throughout the levels, you will find keys. These keys open treasure chests. Inside these chests, you might find money, extra lives, or health to keep you going. You can use the money to buy power-ups. You can also buy help from one of the three fish characters at Scuttle's shop.
