History of Colmar-Ribeauvillé

The history of this area goes back a long time. When the Haut-Rhin department was first created in 1790, the Colmar area was already an "arrondissement."

Later, in 1871, the Haut-Rhin department became part of Germany. But in 1919, after World War I, it became part of France again. At that time, the Haut-Rhin department had seven arrondissements. These included new ones called Colmar-Ville (Colmar City), Colmar-Campagne (Colmar Countryside), and Ribeauvillé. In 1934, the Colmar-Ville and Colmar-Campagne areas joined together to form one larger Colmar arrondissement.

More recently, in 2015, the Ribeauvillé arrondissement was combined with the Colmar arrondissement. This is when it got its current name: Colmar-Ribeauvillé.
