Arta Dobroshi was born on October 2, 1980. She is a talented actress and producer from Kosovo. Arta made history as the first actress from Kosovo to attend major film festivals. These include the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, and the Sundance Film Festival. She was also nominated for the important European Film Award.

Arta was once a refugee, meaning she had to leave her home because of war. Today, she is a UN Champion and a Goodwill Ambassador. This means she works with the United Nations to help people and raise awareness about important issues.

Arta's Early Life

Arta Dobroshi was born in Pristina, which is in Kosovo. Her parents were Kosovo Albanian.

Learning to Act

Arta loved performing arts from a young age. She studied acting and drama for four years at the Academy of Arts in Pristina. While she was a student, she acted in many short films and plays.

When Arta was fifteen, she went to North Carolina in the United States for a student exchange program. There, she continued to act in drama plays.

Facing Challenges

After her first year at the academy, the Kosovo War became much worse. Arta's grandparents were even put in prison by Serbian authorities. They were trying to open a university where people could learn in the Albanian language.

When the Serbian President, Slobodan Milošević, stepped down in October 2000, things started to change. Arta stopped working at a refugee camp and became a translator for NATO.

Arta's Acting Career

After the war, Arta started taking roles in local theaters. She also acted in Albanian movies. Her first big role was in a German-Albanian movie called Magic Eye in 2005.

Breaking Through in Film

While performing in a play in Sarajevo, Arta met two famous directors, Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne. They invited her to try out for their movie, Lorna's Silence. Even though she didn't speak French, Arta got the main role!

For her amazing performance, she was nominated for Best Actress at the European Film Awards. She also received a nomination at the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards in 2009.

Award-Winning Short Films

Arta also starred in a short film called Baby. This film was directed by Daniel Mulloy, who has won a BAFTA award. Baby won the Best Short Film Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2010. It also won Best International Short Film at the Cork Film Festival. Arta herself won the Best Actress award for her role in Baby at the 24fps International Short Film Festival.

In 2008, Arta was chosen to be a judge at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. This is a big honor, showing how respected she is in the film world.

On December 22, 2008, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) named Arta a MDG Champion and Goodwill Ambassador for Kosovo. The UNDP was very impressed with her past charity work. They believed that her fame would help bring attention to important issues.

In 2017, Arta won a BAFTA Film Award for producing a film about refugees called Home. This shows her dedication to telling important stories.

In 2016, Arta was the main star in the music video "Come Near Me" by the band Massive Attack.

When she received the Gold Lion award at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2017, Arta shared a powerful message. She said, "I am Arta Dobroshi, my nationality is happy and I live in the city called earth." This message inspired many people.
