Arta Dobroshi (born October 2, 1980) is an actress and producer from Kosovo. She made history as the first actress from Kosovo to attend major film festivals. These include the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, and the Sundance Film Festival. She was also nominated for a European Film Award. Arta Dobroshi was once a refugee. Today, she is a UN Champion and a Goodwill Ambassador.

Early Life and Acting Start
Arta Dobroshi was born in Pristina, Kosovo. Her parents are Kosovo Albanian. She began studying acting and drama in elementary school. Later, she spent four years at the Academy of Arts in Pristina. During her studies, she acted in many short films and theater plays.
When Arta was fifteen, she joined a student exchange program. She went to North Carolina and performed in drama plays there. Arta is known for working very hard. She often rehearses for a role for eight hours or more each day.
After her first year at the academy, the Kosovo War became very serious. When Serbian President Slobodan Milošević stepped down in October 2000, Arta left her job at a refugee camp. She then became a translator for NATO.
Arta Dobroshi's Acting Career
After the war, Arta started acting in local theaters. She also appeared in Albanian movies. She played a main role in the German-Albanian film Magic Eye (2005).
Becoming Famous with Lorna's Silence
While acting in a play in Sarajevo, Arta met Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne. They are famous film directors. They offered her a chance to try out for their film Lorna's Silence in Kosovo.
Two weeks later, the Dardenne brothers called Arta. She got the main role, even though she didn't speak French. Arta became known around the world because of her role in Lorna's Silence. She played the main character and received great praise. The film won an award at Cannes in 2008. That same year, Arta was nominated for Best Actress. This was at the European Film Awards and the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards in 2009.
Starring in Baby
Dobroshi also starred in the short film Baby. This film was directed by Daniel Mulloy, who won a BAFTA award. Baby won the Best Short Film Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2010. It also won Best International Short Film at the Cork Film Festival.
The film received the Best Short Film Award at the British Independent Film Awards. It also won Best International Short Film at Flickerfest. Baby had its first showing in the US at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011. Arta Dobroshi won Best Actress for her role in Baby. This award was given at the 24fps International Short Film Festival.
Recent Acting Projects
Arta Dobroshi has finished filming Late Bloomers by Julie Gavras. She acted alongside famous actors like William Hurt and Isabella Rossellini.
Dobroshi also stars in Trois Mondes. This film was first shown at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
She is also working on a film called Nëna. She is working with Daniel Mulloy again, who directed Baby. The film is set in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.

Arta Dobroshi was a judge at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival.
On December 22, 2008, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) chose Arta. She became a MDG Champion and Goodwill Ambassador for Kosovo. The UNDP was impressed by her past charity work. They believed her fame would help raise awareness about important issues.
In 2017, Dobroshi won a BAFTA Film Award. She won it for producing the film about refugees called Home.
In 2016, Dobroshi was the main person in the music video "Come Near Me" by Massive Attack.
When she received the 2017 Gold Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Arta shared a powerful message. She said, "I am Arta Dobroshi, my nationality is happy and I live in the city called earth."
