About the Aseptis fumosa Moth

What Does It Look Like?

The Aseptis fumosa moth is medium-sized. Its wingspan is usually between 31.5 and 38 millimeters. That's about 1.2 to 1.5 inches wide.

The front wings are a dark, smoky blackish-brown color. They have brown lines that are most noticeable as small dots near the front edge. There are also three special spots on the forewings. These spots are black and filled with the same color as the wing, or a slightly darker shade.

The male moth's back wings are a shiny, pearly gray. The female's back wings are a darker, smoky color. You can see the veins on the female's wings, but they are not as clear. Adult moths are usually seen flying from April or May until July.

What Do Its Babies Eat?

The young moths, called larvae or caterpillars, eat leaves from several different plants. They are smooth and green. They have a white stripe along their back and a wide red and white stripe on their sides.
