Asghar Hussain Deobandi (also known as Mian Sayyid Asghar Hussain) was an important Indian Sunni Muslim scholar. He lived from October 16, 1877, to January 8, 1945. He was one of the people who helped start a school called Madrasatul Islah.
Asghar Hussain was born in Deoband. He studied at Darul Uloom Deoband, a famous Islamic university. There, he learned from well-known teachers like Mahmud Hasan Deobandi. He was also a follower of Imdadullah Muhajir Makki in a spiritual group called the Chishti Sufi order. He taught religious subjects at a mosque in Jaunpur and later at Darul Uloom Deoband. He also helped edit Al-Qasim, a monthly magazine. He passed away in Surat and was buried in Rander. Some of his famous students include Manazir Ahsan Gilani and Muhammad Shafi Deobandi.

Family History
Mian Asghar Hussain's family came to India from Baghdad. They were descendants of a respected figure named Abdul Qadir Jeelani. During the time of Shah Jahan, an ancestor named Sayyid Ghulam Rasool moved to India with his family. He became the leader and speaker at the Shahi Masjid in Deoband.
His grandfather, Alam Meer, was the son of Sayyid Ghulam Ali. Alam Meer's son, Muhammad Hasan, was Asghar Hussain's father. Muhammad Hasan had two wives. His second wife, Naseeb-un-Nisa, was Asghar Hussain's mother.

Mian Asghar Hussain was born on October 16, 1877, in Deoband. His parents were Sayyid Muhammad Hasan and Naseebun Nisa.
His Name
His given name was Asghar Hussain. His family history shows he was a descendant of Abdul Qadir Jilani.
His Education
When he was eight years old, Asghar Hussain began his studies with Muhammad Abdullah. He learned the Quran from his father and then started learning Persian. Later, he joined Darul Uloom Deoband. He continued his Persian studies and also learned mathematics. He did very well in his Persian class.
When Asghar Hussain was about 17 or 18, his father passed away. He stopped his studies for about a year to teach at his family's old school. However, his teacher Mahmud Hasan Deobandi encouraged him to return to Darul Uloom Deoband. He went back on April 1, 1896.
He studied important Islamic texts like Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim with Mahmud Hasan Deobandi. Other teachers included Azizur Rahman Usmani. He finished his studies in 1902 (1320 Hijri year) and received his certificate. He was also a spiritual student of Imdadullah Muhajir Makki.
His Work and Career
After finishing his studies, Asghar Hussain worked at Darul Uloom Deoband for over a year. Then, his teachers sent him to be the head-teacher at the madrassa of the Atala Masjid in Jaunpur. He worked there for seven years.
In 1908, he helped start Madrasatul Islah in Sarai Meer, Azamgarh. Later, he was called back to Darul Uloom Deoband. He became a co-editor for the journal Al-Qasim. He also taught important Islamic books at Darul Uloom Deoband, including Sunan Abu Dawud. His students included famous scholars like Muhammad Shafi Deobandi and Manazir Ahsan Gilani. He also reopened his family's old school, which is now known as Madrassa Asgharia Qadeem.

His Family Life
While he was a student, Asghar Hussain married Mushtaq Hussain's daughter. They had two sons, Sayyid Akhtar Hussain and Mian Bilal Hussain, and one daughter, Fehmeeda. His son Sayyid Akhtar Hussain also became a teacher at Darul Uloom Deoband.
His Passing
Mian Asghar Hussain passed away on January 8, 1945, due to a heart attack. He was buried in Rander, Surat.
