Astrid Smeplass (born October 29, 1996), known as Astrid S, is a singer and songwriter from Norway. In 2013, she was a contestant on the Norwegian TV show Idol, where she finished in fifth place. Her first full album, Leave It Beautiful, came out in 2020.

Early Life

Astrid S grew up in a small village called Berkåk in Norway. She played piano at home and flute in her school's band. She found classical music a bit strict. So, she learned to play the guitar and started writing her own songs. She was inspired by the musician John Mayer. When she was 13, Astrid learned to speak English.

When Astrid S was 16, she released her first song called "Shattered". This was after she was on Idol in 2013. Soon after, she signed a deal with Sony ATV Music Publishing. Her next song, "2AM", came out in 2014. She also released her own version of the song "FourFiveSeconds" by Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney.

In 2016, Astrid S released the popular song "Hurts So Good". This song was part of her first collection of songs, called an EP, titled Astrid S. She also went on tour with the singer Troye Sivan in Europe. The next year, she released her second EP, Party's Over. In 2017, she sang backing vocals for the American singer Katy Perry on her song "Hey Hey Hey".

Later in 2017, Astrid S sang a cover of a song by Cezinando. This song was used in the fourth season of the TV show Skam. She also performed it at an awards show called P3 Gull. On June 30, 2017, her second EP, Party's Over, was released. It included the songs "Breathe" and "Such a Boy". A few weeks later, an acoustic version of the EP came out, with an extra song called "Mexico".

Her song "Think Before I Talk" became very popular in Sweden and Denmark. In February 2018, Astrid S won a big award called Årets Spellemann (Artist of the Year). She was the first female artist to win this award since 2003. After releasing the song "Emotion", Astrid S joined the band Years & Years on their UK tour. Then, in 2019, she supported Zara Larsson on her US tour.

In April 2019, Astrid S became the face of a campaign for the fashion brand Fendi. She also joined the climate activist Greta Thunberg at a Fridays For Future event in Sweden. There, Astrid S sang a cover of "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner.

In August 2019, her fourth EP was released. It was called Trust Issues. This EP included songs like "Someone New", "Emotion", and "The First One". It also had two new songs: "Doing To Me" and "Trust Issues".

Astrid S's first song of 2020 was "I Do". This was a collaboration with country singer Brett Young. The song reached number three in Norway. In September of the same year, Astrid S announced her first full studio album, Leave It Beautiful. It was released on October 16, 2020. Before the album came out, she released the songs "Dance Dance Dance", "Marilyn Monroe", and "It's Ok If You Forget Me".

In 2021, it was noticed that some lyrics in the song "How You King?" by French Montana were similar to Astrid S's song "Jump". Astrid S was then given credit as a co-songwriter for the song.

That same year, she played Cinderella in Tre nøtter til Askepott. This was a Norwegian remake of an old film. For this movie, she also released her first original song in Norwegian, called "Når Snøen Smelter".
