In July 2009, he successfully auditioned for the main role in Spud. This film was based on the 2005 book by South African author John van de Ruit. Filming happened in South Africa from March to April 2010. The movie was released in South Africa on 3 December 2010. It was later nominated for six SAFTAs, including a Best Lead Actor award for Sivan.

In September 2012, Sivan started making video blogs (vlogs) on YouTube. Before that, he had only sung on the site since 2007. When he posted his first vlog, Sivan already had 27,000 subscribers. He had joined YouTube on 1 October 2007. A YouTube video Sivan made with fellow YouTuber Tyler Oakley, called "The 'Boyfriend' Tag", won them a Teen Choice Award. This was in the "Choice Web Collaboration" category. As of November 2023, Sivan had over 8.1 million subscribers. His YouTube videos had over 1.9 billion total views.

Brand Partnerships

In 2018, Sivan was the face of Valentino's Spring/Summer 2018 clothing line. In 2019, he was an ambassador for MAC's Viva Glam campaign. He also appeared in Calvin Klein's #MyCalvins and #CK50 campaigns that year. Since 2020, he has been an ambassador for Cartier. In February 2021, Sivan's special t-shirt collection, which he designed with Uniqlo, was released. On 24 September 2021, he was a model in the third show of Rihanna's Savage X Fenty Show. Tsu Lange Yor Brand

In July 2023, it was announced that Sivan and his brother would launch a new luxury lifestyle brand. It would sell fragrances and art objects called Tsu Lange Yor. The name means 'to long years' in Yiddish. This is a tribute to his grandmother and great-grandmother, who spoke the language. The idea of "home" and creating a personal space was very important to Sivan. This led him to create his own brand instead of using existing product lines.

The brand launched in August 2023 with a pop-up store. It has since grown. The brand sells home items, candles, and perfumes. One fragrance is "Sala Eau de Parfum", named after his nephew. A short film was also made for this fragrance.

Artistic Style

Sivan's favorite artists include Janet Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Taylor Swift, and Lorde. He is also inspired by Michael Jackson and Frank Ocean. In 2018, he told Wonderland that he wished he had more diverse music growing up. He said that many of his inspirations were straight women like Cher, Madonna, Miley, Robyn, and Lady Gaga. Sivan also looks to Ariana Grande and Christina Aguilera for inspiration. His music video for "My My My!" was directly influenced by Aguilera's "Dirrty" video.

Sivan's music is often described as "layered electropop with constant tinges of EDM". His deep singing voice has received much praise. His work has been compared to that of Lorde and Taylor Swift. In December 2020, Sivan was listed at number 34 in Rolling Stone Australia's "50 Greatest Australian Artists of All Time" issue.

Music Videos and Themes

Sivan's music videos often show diverse relationships. The Blue Neighbourhood video series told the story of two teenagers in a secret relationship. "Youth" also featured Sivan with another male love interest. His music video for "Heaven" includes clips of historical movements for acceptance and diverse couples. It also shows emotional scenes with him and another man. The video asks, "Without losing a piece of me, how do I get to Heaven?" and "If I'm losing a piece of me, maybe I don't want Heaven". Sivan has said that these portrayals are important to him. He remembers how few times he saw diverse relationships on TV or in music videos when he was growing up.

On 16 July 2020, Sivan released a music video he directed himself for his song "Easy". This song was from his EP In a Dream. A new version of "Easy", with country singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves and producer Mark Ronson, was released with a second music video in December 2020.

On 13 July 2023, Sivan released the music video for "Rush". This was the first song from Something to Give Each Other. The video was praised for its open display of diverse culture. The video earned Sivan his first nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Music Video. Sivan did receive some comments about the lack of different body types among the dancers in the music video. He responded that it was not something he and the creative director had thought about.

Personal Life and Health

Sivan shared his personal journey publicly through a YouTube video on 7 August 2013. He had already shared this with his family three years earlier. He wanted the video to be public because he was talking with EMI Australia about a record deal. He had not yet discussed his identity with them. The morning after he posted his video, he received a supportive email from EMI.

Sivan has a mild form of Marfan syndrome. This condition can make him "super thin, with long bendy fingers, and a high [palate]". He has also experienced body image issues. In an interview with Billboard, Sivan said, "I think that everyone's body is as beautiful as it is, including my own, and it just sucks to see people talking about other people's bodies."
