Augustin Hadelich, born on April 4, 1984, is a famous classical violinist. He is Italian, German, and American. He has even won a Grammy Award for his amazing music!

Early Life and Musical Start

Augustin Hadelich was born in Cecina, Italy. His parents were German. When he was five years old, Augustin started learning the violin. His two older brothers already played the cello and piano. His father, who was a farmer and played the cello for fun, taught him.

As a young musician, Augustin learned from different violin teachers. These teachers gave him lessons and special classes when they visited near his family's farm in Tuscany. He quickly became a very talented young musician, sometimes called a "wunderkind." He played the violin, piano, and even wrote music in Germany.

In 1999, Augustin was hurt in a fire at his family's farm. He was flown to Germany for treatment. After he got better, he finished his studies at the Istituto Mascagni in Italy with top honors. He then got accepted into The Juilliard School in New York.

From 2004 to 2007, Augustin studied at Juilliard. He earned two diplomas there. After finishing school, he stayed in New York. In 2014, he became an American citizen.

In 2006, Augustin Hadelich won first prize at a big violin competition in Indianapolis. Soon after, he showed he was ready for major performances. He often stepped in at the last minute for other famous violinists. For example, in 2008, he played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 2010, he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic.

Over the next ten years, he played many times with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic. He also performed with almost all the other major orchestras in North America. These included the Boston Symphony and the Chicago Symphony.

Augustin also played with many famous orchestras around the world. He performed with the Berlin Philharmonic in Germany and the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the UK. He also played with orchestras in Amsterdam, Denmark, Finland, Vienna, Spain, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

From 2019 to 2023, he was named "Artist in Association" with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg, Germany. This was a special title.

Augustin Hadelich has won many important awards for his musical talent.

In 2021, he won the "Instrumentalist of the Year" award at the Opus Klassik. In 2018, Musical America also named him "Instrumentalist of the Year."

The University of Exeter in the UK gave him an honorary doctorate in December 2017. This is a special degree given to honor someone's achievements.

In February 2016, Augustin won his first Grammy Award. He won for "Best Classical Instrumental Solo." This was for his performance of Henri Dutilleux’s Violin Concerto. He played with the Seattle Symphony.
