Bình Dương is a province in Vietnam. It is located in the country's Southeast region. This area is very important for Vietnam's economy.

Bình Dương borders Bình Phước province to the north. It touches Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) to the south and southwest. Tây Ninh province is to its west, and Đồng Nai province is to its east. The province was created on January 1, 1997. It was formed from the old Sông Bé province.

Bình Dương is like a main entrance to HCMC. HCMC is a big center for business and culture in Vietnam. Bình Dương has a great road system. Important highways like National Road 13 and the Trans-Asian Highway pass through it. It is also close to Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport and major ports. All these things help Bình Dương grow its economy and society.

Geography and Climate

Land and Rivers

Bình Dương province has mostly flat land. It is crossed by three important rivers: the Saigon, Đồng Nai, and Bé rivers. There are also a few small hills. Even though it's mostly flat, Bình Dương is a bit higher than Ho Chi Minh City.

The land here has changed over millions of years. Rain, wind, and river flows have shaped it. This has created different types of land, from flat plains to gentle hills. Some low mountains can be found too, like Châu Thới and Cậu mountain.

Weather Patterns

Bình Dương has a hot and rainy climate. It is also very humid, like the rest of Vietnam's Southeast region. The weather has two main seasons: a dry season and a wet (rainy) season.

The rainy season usually starts in May and lasts until late October. In the early months, there are often short but heavy rain showers. From July to September, the rain can be continuous, sometimes for a day or two. Bình Dương rarely gets strong typhoons.

The average temperature in Bình Dương is about 26-27 degrees Celsius (79-81 degrees Fahrenheit). The hottest it has been is around 39.3 degrees Celsius (102.7 degrees Fahrenheit). But at night, the temperature can drop to 16-17 degrees Celsius (61-63 degrees Fahrenheit). The air is quite humid, especially in September.

Long ago, the area of Bình Dương was covered in thick forests. Different ethnic groups lived here, like the Xtiêng, Chơ Ro, Mnong, and Khmer Krom people.

In the 1600s, many ethnic Vietnamese settlers came to this region. Most were farmers looking for their own land to escape poverty. Some were also refugees from wars. By 1698, enough people lived here that a Vietnamese general was sent to set up official rules and laws.

From that time, Bình Dương grew quickly. Many forests were cleared to make space for farms. Today, most of the people living in Bình Dương are ethnic Vietnamese.

How Bình Dương is Organized

Bình Dương is divided into smaller parts called "administrative divisions." This helps manage the province. There are nine main divisions:

  • 4 districts
  • 1 district-level town
  • 4 provincial cities

The capital city is Thủ Dầu Một. These larger divisions are then split into even smaller parts. These include 4 townlets, 42 communes, and 45 wards.

Economy and Industry

Bình Dương is known for its good farmland. Agriculture is a big part of its economy. But it's also a major center for manufacturing. This means many factories are located here.

In the early 2000s, Bình Dương received a lot of foreign investment. Big companies like Nike, Adidas, H&M, and McDonald's have factories in the province. They make goods to sell both in Vietnam and other countries. The southern cities of Dĩ An and Thuận An are very developed. They are now part of the larger Ho Chi Minh City metropolitan area.

Foreign investment continues to grow in Bình Dương. In the first half of 2018, it attracted US$850 million. This was more than 60% of its goal for the year. Since 2016, the province has attracted US$5.7 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI). Japan is the largest foreign investor, with nearly US$5.7 billion in projects.

Thủ Dầu Một is the main economic and administrative center of Bình Dương. It's located in a key economic region. The city government is working to increase its service and industry sectors.
